Iran accuses Ukraine of attacking one of its merchant vessels in Caspian Sea

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea.

Details: The Iranian ministry said the attack occurred on the morning of 25 July, causing an explosion on board the vessel that killed one of the crew and injured another.
The ministry claimed the attack reflects Kyiv's persistent "irrational and hostile approach" towards Iran.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the country will defend its interests and national security in accordance with the principle of self-defence under international law.
Tehran described the attack on its vessel as an act of aggression and accused Kyiv of attempting to escalate the war in Ukraine.
Background: Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported "very strong results with long‑range strikes in the Caspian Sea – including vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran, as well as a warship".
