Romania scrambles jets over unknown target heading towards Ukraine

Romania's Ministry of Defence radar surveillance system detected an unknown aerial asset east of Sulina on 27 July.

Details: Two F-16 jets from the 86th Air Base in Fetești were scrambled at 08:53 to monitor the situation.

The National Military Command Centre notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the activation of public warning measures in Tulcea County, with an RO-Alert notification sent at 08:47.

"The object was briefly in national airspace before crossing the border heading towards Ukraine. Reports of explosions on Ukrainian territory followed shortly afterwards," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Defence added that it would provide further details as soon as they become available.
