Details: After arriving in Kyiv, Roquefeuil presented copies of his credentials at Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and honoured the memory of Ukrainian defenders at the walls of St Michael's Golden-Domed Cathedral.

Quote from Roquefeuil: "As I begin my work as France's ambassador to Ukraine, I am here today at the Wall of Remembrance to honour the heroes who gave their lives for their homeland."

Background:

  • Roquefeuil was appointed the new French ambassador to Ukraine by President Emmanuel Macron on 13 July. He announced his departure to Ukraine last weekend, recording a video address in Ukrainian.
  • France's diplomatic mission in Kyiv was previously headed for three years by Gaël Veyssière. He is returning to Paris to head the Crisis and Support Centre at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
  • German Ambassador Heiko Thoms is also coming to the end of his tenure in Ukraine. Der Spiegel has reported that Boris Ruge, a diplomat at NATO headquarters, has been chosen to replace Thoms as ambassador to Ukraine.
