Desperate situation could force Kremlin leader into "something risky", Polish foreign minister says

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski believes the current situation in the Russia-Ukraine war is putting pressure on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and could push him into "something risky".

Details: "The Russian economy is beginning to suffer. Russians can't pretend that it's an external, special military operation anymore," Sikorski said on TVP World's On the Record programme on 28 July.

He added that Putin's "capabilities are less than we had thought but his intent is even worse".

Quote: "He [Putin] is clearly misinformed. He clearly doesn't have a realistic picture of his situation and of his prospects. Because otherwise he'd make a deal to bring an end to the war Moscow unleashed on Ukraine in 2022."

More details: Sikorski warned that the Russian leader's "desperate" position could push him into "something risky" amid concerns that Russia may be planning to spread the conflict beyond Ukraine further west.

Quote: "A sick man with a gun is still a man with a gun. That's why we are spending so much money on defence, in order to convince Putin that any conflict with Poland would cost him even more dearly than his criminal war with Ukraine."
