Ukraine calls for continued pressure on Russia following large-scale strike on Kyiv Oblast

Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on the world to continue exerting pressure on Russia through sanctions in the wake of Russia's new massive attack on Kyiv Oblast.

Quote: "Overnight, Russia attacked Kyiv and the surrounding region with more than two dozen ballistic missiles, killing at least 17 people and injuring more than four dozen. Russian strikes take no summer vacation; support for Ukraine and pressure on the aggressor must not pause either."

Details: Sybiha stressed that every interceptor missile matters.

"These are life-saving tools, and I urge all partners to expedite all relevant decisions," Sybiha wrote.

He also added that Russia's ability to produce ballistic missiles must be destroyed.

"Additional, tough sanctions are critical and urgent," the minister stressed.

He also warned "against drawing any false moral equivalence between the aggressor and the state defending itself".

"Russian attacks cannot be justified under any circumstances, including any Ukrainian actions. On the contrary, Ukraine has every right to strike legitimate military targets inside Russia in self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter," Sybiha concluded.

Background: On the night of 4-5 August, Russia carried out a large-scale combined attack on Kyiv Oblast using ballistic missiles and strike drones. According to the latest data, 17 people were killed and a further 44 injured in the attack.
