Ukraine unveils reusable interceptor drone with net launcher – video

Ukrainian company WINFLY has unveiled the WINFLY Spider interceptor drone, equipped with a net launcher designed to capture other drones, after which the interceptor can return and be reused.

Details: The interceptor is based on another one of the company's drones, the WINFLY 10 Hunter.

"The WINFLY 10 Hunter base platform can operate at altitudes of up to 5,000 m, reach the speed of 160 km/h and has a range of more than 18 km," the outlet reported.

The stated flight endurance is up to 25 minutes, while the system can be deployed in less than three minutes. Its target detection and identification range is up to 500 m.

The system is said to be designed to intercept fixed-wing UAVs, Mavic drones, FPV drones and fibre-optic drones. The interceptor is available in both daytime and night-time configurations.

"The integrated KARAKURT-K2 net launcher weighs 210 g, is made of high-strength aluminium, connects via a USB Type-C port and operates at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +50°C," the outlet added.

The net launcher has a stated firing range of up to 15 m, while its 3×3-m net deploys 3-5 m after launch.

According to the manufacturer, each net shot costs UAH 1,100, while the use of the net launcher allows the interceptor drone to be recovered and reused.

Background:

• Ukrainian company Ptashka Drones unveiled the Ptashka 2.0 handheld anti-drone net launcher with rapid reloading and upgraded controls this spring. The system is an upgraded version of the previous Ptashka net launcher. The company later demonstrated that the net launcher can also neutralise 15-inch drones.
• More recently, Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech announced the launch of serial production of its Chipa net launchers, designed to intercept FPV drones at close range.
