Ex-defence minister Fedorov comments on upcoming US trip and possible meeting with Elon Musk

Quote: "This [the US trip – ed.] is primarily related to the work I'm now doing with the East Europe Foundation. I have objectives related to raising additional funds for the foundation, and meetings have been arranged with our partners. In addition, there will be several important meetings concerning the defence sector and attracting investment – they will be held in both Europe and the US. This is about development and setting up new projects."
Details: Asked whether he plans to seek Trump's support during the trip, Fedorov replied: "No, I have no idea where this kind of news comes from. This [the holding of elections – ed.] is a domestic issue. If we start talking about it and pushing it abroad, that doesn't sit right with me personally. I'd like us to discuss it with the public; this is an internal matter for our country. No one from the outside should dictate or dismiss any particular issues. We have to decide what to do. So that is not true."
Asked whether he plans to meet Elon Musk and continue to work with him, however, Fedorov answered: "We'll see."
Background:
- The Kyiv Independent recently reported that Fedorov could travel to the US as early as next week.
- Meanwhile, The Guardian has suggested that the trip is intended to drum up support from Washington for the idea of holding elections in Ukraine.
- Fedorov's press service said the trip to the US is not related to political meetings.
- On 6 August, Fedorov said he is still in talks with SpaceX owner Elon Musk about the possibility of using the Starlink internet service to target sites in Russia, including ballistic missile launchers.
