Romania scrambles fighter jets due to aerial asset over Black Sea

Romania's radar surveillance system detected an aerial asset 33 km north of Ukraine's Snake Island on 27 August.

Details: The Romanian Defence Ministry said the asset was detected at 18:27. At 18:41, two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air and Space Force were scrambled to monitor the situation.

After receiving information from the National Military Command Centre, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations sent an RO-Alert notification to residents of the northern part of Tulcea County at 18:44.

Several RO-Alert notifications were sent for Tulcea County on 26 August. The Ministry of Defence stated at the time that no incursions into Romanian airspace had been reported. An on-site investigation aims to establish whether drone debris reached the Plauru area and whether they were connected to a fire that broke out.

On 26 August, debris from an unidentified drone was found on a beach in Olimp in Romania's Constanța County.

On the same day, drone wreckage was found on several beaches in Bulgaria.
