People killed and injured in explosions near Kyiv: Prosecutor’s Office investigates negligence by officials

There have been fatalities and injuries reported as a result of a Russian attack and subsequent explosions at a business in the village of Myla in the Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast.

Quote from the Office of the Prosecutor General: "Early reports indicate that at around 20:10 on 28 August, as a result of a Russian attack, an unmanned aerial vehicle, the type of which is being confirmed, fell on or struck the premises of a business in the village of Myla.

A large-scale fire broke out there, followed by explosions."

Details: As of 23:09, five people were known to have been injured. One house was completely destroyed in the area, while seven others were damaged. A fire engine and a care home for elderly people were also damaged.

Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported that police officers, first responders and bomb disposal experts were working at the scene. Residents will be evacuated if necessary.

Law enforcement officers have launched a pre-trial investigation into possible negligence in the performance of official duties (Article 367 of the Criminal Code). The investigation will examine the legality of storing explosive items and materials on the company's premises, whether the necessary permits were in place, and the actions of the officials involved.

Quote from PM Koretskyi: "Unfortunately, we can already state that the terrible tragedy in Vyshneve has not served as a lesson. In the fifth year of the full-scale invasion, making the same mistakes over and over again is criminal negligence. Everyone responsible, without exception, must face severe punishment so that such situations never happen again."

Update: As of 00:16, the number of those who sustained injuries had risen to six. A total of 165 people were evacuated from the scene.

Update: At 02:21, Tymur Tkachenko said that people had been killed in the Russian attack.

"We do not yet have definitive information on the number of casualties. First responders and all the appropriate services are continuing to work at the scene," Tkachenko said.

Background:

• On the evening of 28 August, loud explosions were heard in the Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast. A fire broke out at a warehouse, and traffic for all vehicles was blocked on a section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop motorway between kilometres 15 and 32.
• Earlier, on 6 July 2026, a similar incident occurred in Vyshneve in Kyiv Oblast. Following a Russian strike, explosions occurred at ammunition warehouses, killing nine people and damaging more than 280 houses.
