Germany's Merz says Berlin is preparing response to Leipzig drone incident

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has confirmed that Berlin is coordinating with its allies on measures in response to a recent incident involving a drone carrying explosives found near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig airport.

Quote: "We are in the process of concluding the investigation. There is broad consensus within the Federal Government ​on how we should respond, and we will make ​this clear in the coming days; it won't be ⁠long now."

Details: Merz stopped short of suggesting who is currently believed to be responsible.

"It has ​been agreed ⁠upon, and final agreement is due to be reached in the next few days with the European Union and our NATO ⁠partners. It will be a response ​from Germany, but our partners in the European Union and NATO will not ​be taken by surprise," he said.

Reports in the media state Berlin plans to formally hold Russia responsible for the explosive-laden drone found in Leipzig and respond with sanctions.
