The US envoys are due to hold talks with Putin on Saturday 5 September.
Background:
- On the evening of 4 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner would visit Kyiv over the weekend. He stressed that Ukraine would not strike Russia on those days and expected Moscow to take reciprocal steps.
- Trump said Witkoff and Kushner were taking a "proposal to end the war" to Moscow and Kyiv.
- This followed reports in the media outlet that Trump's special envoys were discussing alternative plans for their visit to Kyiv in the coming days because of Russian scaremongering.
