More than 50% of Ukrainian refugees in Poland plan to return to Ukraine – survey

A survey conducted by the Rating Group conducted in August states that 51% of Ukrainian refugees surveyed in Poland plan to return to Ukraine, although most are putting off the move until the war is over.

Details: According to the survey, 8% are ready to return in the near future, while 43% plan to return after the war. Another 26% do not plan to return, while 23% are unable to give a definite answer.

For 71% of respondents, the key conditions that would encourage them to return are security and stability in Ukraine.

Economic development is important to 36%, employment prospects to 26% and the absence of internal linguistic, religious and other conflicts to 21%.

The development of social infrastructure and the opportunity to influence social change were each cited by 12%, while participation in rebuilding the country and worsening living conditions abroad were each cited by 11%.

The survey also found that 44% of respondents would like to remain abroad permanently, while 43% would not. Among those who want to live abroad, 40% would choose Poland, 17% another European country and 6% a country outside Europe. Meanwhile, 37% were unable to name a country.

From 21 to 25 August 2026, the Rating Group conducted a survey of Ukrainian refugees in Poland on living abroad.

In July, for the first time in the history of the Centre for Public Opinion Research's studies in Poland, the number of people opposed to accepting refugees from Ukraine exceeded the number of supporters of the policy.
