EU dismisses false Russian claim that it wants Ukraine to mobilise women

EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius has rejected a false claim by Russian intelligence that the European Union is demanding that Ukraine start to mobilise women.

Details: The EU has no intention of demanding that Ukraine mobilise women – this is Russian fake news, Kubilius said.

Quote: "Now, I have no [such] information. I would say it would be strange if Europe will try to convince Ukrainians how to make mobilisation, including mobilisation of women.

I am not surprised that that comes from the Kremlin."

Details: Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service claimed earlier, without providing any evidence, that the European Commission is demanding that Kyiv start to mobilise women. The Russian intelligence agency also alleged that EU High Representative Kaja Kallas supposedly said it would be "a step in the right direction".

In March it was reported that Germany has seen a sharp rise in the number of Ukrainian men among refugees over the past year.
The EU has clarified that the decision to grant temporary protection to Ukrainians in the EU applies equally to all Ukrainians, with no exceptions for men of conscription age.
