Details: Lithuanian National Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said that airborne threats were evolving rapidly and Lithuania was therefore taking appropriate measures. Rather than building everything from scratch, the country was adapting systems already in use in Ukraine, thereby consistently strengthening the entire air defence chain, from airspace surveillance to the interception and neutralisation of airborne threats.
Lithuania's Ministry of National Defence said SkyFortress is an acoustic drone detection system designed to detect low-flying objects either by the sounds they produce or by their radio signals.
SkyFortress is reportedly capable of classifying objects that leave acoustic or electromagnetic signatures in real time.
Background:
- Lithuania and Poland are jointly developing an international evacuation plan that would be used if some residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia needed to be evacuated across national borders.
- Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius has said that Lithuania has prepared evacuation plans in response to the growing threat from Russia.
- On 25 September, Lithuania launched its largest annual national mobilisation exercise, Vyčio skliautas 2026 (Vytis Dome 2026), aimed at testing how the country would respond to a deteriorating security situation and transition to mobilisation in wartime.
