More than 60% of Ukrainians willing to endure war as long as necessary – survey

A survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) shows that 62% of Ukrainians, like the majority of Kyiv residents, are prepared to endure the war for as long as necessary, whereas 23% are ready for only a few months or half a year.

Quote: "The majority of Ukrainians – 62% – say they are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary. Another 4% say a relatively long period – 1 year.
To endure a shorter period – a few months or half a year – are ready 23%. The remaining 11% could not decide on their opinion."

Details: Results of the Omnibus survey, conducted September 12-21, remained virtually unchanged compared to the previous survey in late July – early August.
In particular, the figure did not decrease among surveyed Kyiv residents – 72% of respondents are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary (in late July – early August, this figure among Kyiv residents was 69%, a difference within the margin of statistical error). The KIIS noted that it should be taken into account that this survey was conducted after the onset of active terror by Russians involving reactive drones.
Quote: "That is, these data, at least as of September 12-21, did not lead to demoralisation of the population. At the same time, the survey was completed before the attacks on the bridges across the Dnipro began."

For reference: Questions regarding war and peace were added to the survey at the request of the Forum NGO.
Sociologists interviewed 1,002 citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and older via telephone interviews who, at the time of the study, resided in government-controlled Ukrainian territory.
The survey did not cover residents of occupied territories or citizens who went abroad after 24 February 2022. However, internally displaced persons from occupied territories were included among the respondents.
Under normal circumstances, the statistical margin of error for such a sample with a 95% probability and accounting for the design effect does not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 10% and 1.8% for indicators close to 5%.
The KIIS notes that in wartime conditions, possible systematic deviations are added to the formal error. All percentages are rounded to whole numbers.
Background: Survey results also showed that 75% of Ukrainians are open to holding negotiations with Russia now to end the war.
