Details: The exercises are said to be the first of their kind. They will focus on preparing for the post-war situation, in which the presence of European troops on Ukrainian territory would serve as a deterrent.
Soldiers from several countries, including France and Germany, will practise troop movements and logistical support as part of a multinational peacekeeping operation.
The publication learned that at least 1,500 British, French and German troops, along with the Polish Armed Forces, will take part in the exercises.
A source in the UK Ministry of Defence said that troops would rehearse a scenario in which "multinational forces are together in a particular area", but declined to provide further details.
A senior Polish official said the exercises would underscore the unity of Europe's major military powers in the face of the Russian threat and the need to continue supporting Ukraine.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey said in Washington that next month, "thousands of troops will take part in major exercises in Poland to ensure we are ready to support the military training and post-war reconstruction that Ukraine will need".
He made the remarks following his first in-person meeting with his US counterpart, Pete Hegseth, at the Pentagon.
Background:
- The exercises were agreed upon at a summit in Paris in July and announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
- The Coalition of the Willing, led by France and the UK, is working on a plan to deploy a mission to Ukraine to guarantee a future ceasefire.
