Details: A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said announcements concerning TPS holders from Ukraine and Sudan will "be made at the appropriate time" and that their immigration protections will remain in force for now.
Temporary Protected Status allows people already in the US to remain in the country and work legally if their countries of origin have been affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts or other extraordinary circumstances.
According to official data, as of March 2025, more than 100,000 Ukrainians and over 1,790 Sudanese nationals were covered by the programme.
Background:
- Bartosz Grodecki, Head of Poland's National Security Bureau, recently said that the country has experience of receiving refugees from Ukraine but hopes there would be no new wave.
- Moldovan President Maia Sandu, meanwhile, said her country is ready to receive a new influx of refugees if Ukraine encounters a severe humanitarian crisis this winter.
