Details: The visit had not previously been announced for security reasons, but during a speech on Tuesday 3 November, Merz announced that the Ukrainian president would be visiting Berlin that day.
The German chancellor said that Zelenskyy would meet him again around lunchtime.
The visit comes as US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced earlier that the US team would meet representatives from France, Germany, the UK, the EU and NATO in Brussels this week. The parties will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, among other things. NATO confirmed this meeting.
Witkoff also announced that trilateral talks on ending the Russia-Ukraine war would take place next week in the capital of the United Arab Emirates and would focus on further steps towards peace.
Background: The Ukrainian president previously said that, following a conversation between European leaders and the Kremlin leader, there is a sense that Russia is serious about a meeting between negotiating teams in Abu Dhabi.
