Details: "The special emergency power cut schedule has been introduced in the oblast! At 15:19, we received an instruction from Ukrenergo [the state-owned electricity transmission operator – ed.] to introduce a special schedule," Poltavaoblenergo said on Facebook. Sumyoblenergo reported that the special schedule has been implemented in full.

"Special emergency power cuts are a set of measures designed to rapidly reduce the load on the power system by a significant amount. They involve disconnecting 35-110 kV power lines, as well as transformers and busbar sections at 35-110 kV substations," Sumyoblenergo explained.

The schedules are introduced and lifted following a special instruction from the Ukrenergo dispatcher. The utilities say it is impossible to tell consumers how long power cuts will last when emergency or special emergency schedules are in force.

The difficult situation in the energy sector is the result of Russia's armed aggression. The regional power companies assured consumers that power engineers are doing everything possible to stabilise the power system.

Background:

  • On the morning of 3 November, emergency power cuts were introduced in Kyiv and six oblasts of Ukraine due to equipment damage and reduced voltage in the high-voltage grid.
  • Russian attacks have knocked out power to key water supply facilities in Kyiv, causing disruptions to the city's water supply.
