20,000 people leave Mariupol by car in one day - Office of the President

Currently, people can evacuate Mariupol by private car.

Details: Later, Kyrylo Tymoshenko added that about 20,000 people left Mariupol through the humanitarian corridor by private cars on Tuesday.

570 out of 4,000 cars that left the city have already arrived in Zaporizhzhia. The rest will stay for a night in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk region localities.

About 29,000 people in total were evacuated from the besieged cities through humanitarian corridors on Tuesday.

Background: Russian occupying forces allowed only 160 private cars to leave Mariupol.

In the morning of 15 March, Governor of the Donetsk Region Pavlo Kyrylenko announced that the humanitarian corridor had been opened for those leaving Mariupol by private cars.

However, in the afternoon Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk stated that humanitarian aid had not arrived in Mariupol yet. She also said that humanitarian corridors for safe evacuation had not been opened.
