170 civilians, including 5 children, have been killed in Kharkiv by Russian troops since the start of the war.

Details: Bolvinov added that 27 Kharkiv residents had been killed within just the last 24 hours.

Background:

  • Kharkiv has been heavily shelled since the start of the Russian invasion. The city has suffered significant damage, but has not succumbed to Russian occupation.
  • On 7 March, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that the Russian occupying forces offered him the chance to surrender and let them enter the city.
  • The Ukrainian railway, Ukrzaliznytsia, has managed to evacuate more than 600,000 residents from Kharkiv.
