The fighting for the city of Kreminna in the Luhansk region, which was captured by the Russian occupying forces on 18 April, lasted three days. Russia used a large number of armoured vehicles to attack the city.

Quote: "[Kreminna] has been completely captured. There are only a few Ukrainian units holding the line to allow their troops to regroup. The Russian forces were significant: one of the units, which is no more than a platoon, had up to 43 armoured objects: tanks, armoured vehicles, MT-LB [multi-purpose fully amphibious auxiliary armoured tracked vehicle]. Part of the unit was destroyed, but not all.

Generally speaking, the offensive lasted three days. Now there is heavy fighting on the outskirts. I know that the Russians are shooting at all the cars they see. There is information that one of the cars shot at contained people who were trying to evacuate. This information came from a man who was injured. No one can help him now. He is on the highway near the border between two regions (Luhansk and Donetsk - ed.).

Previously: The head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Haidai, reported that Kreminna was captured on the morning of 18 April. According to him, the offensive by the Russian troops in the Luhansk region is "slow, but has already begun". Three and a half to four thousand people remain in the Kreminna community. Street fighting continues, and evacuation is impossible.

Background: The city of Kreminna is a district centre in the north-western part of Luhansk region, known for its recreational opportunities. There used to be many children's camps there and a training centre for Olympic and Paralympic athletes. At the beginning of 2019, the city's population was almost 19,000 people.
