Russia starts to build Sarmat missiles and gets ready for new test

Dmitriy Rogozin, the director of Roskosmos, has announced that the state corporation has started to develop mass-produced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Details: One of the Uzhur missile formation regiments located in Krasnoyarsk Oblast, Russia, will be the first to receive the Sarmat missiles before the end of this year.

Rogozin also reported that preparations are underway for Sarmat’s second flight development test, but did not specify when and where the launch is to take place.

Background: Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the first Sarmat strategic missile system will go on combat duty by the end of 2022.

Details: Sarmat was first launched at the end of April. Putin claimed at the time that "the first regiment fully equipped with heavy Sarmat intercontinental missiles will be put on combat duty as planned at the end of 2022".

According to Putin, the missile is able to "overcome all modern means of anti-missile defence". He has threatened other countries with the missile. Russia’s Ministry of Defence has claimed that Sarmat is the most powerful missile with the biggest target hitting range in the world.
