Russia uses air defence systems for ground attacks due to lack of specialised missiles – British intelligence

EUROPEAN PRAVDA – FRIDAY, 22 JULY 2022, 9:23

Russia has increased its use of air defence missiles for ground attacks due to an acute lack of specialised missiles for striking ground targets.

This is according to the daily report from British intelligence, "European Pravda" writes.

"Russia has increased its use of air defence missiles in a secondary ground attack mode because of critical shortages of dedicated ground-attack missiles", the report stated.

It is noted that these weapons have relatively small warheads, designed to destroy aircraft. They could pose a significant threat against troops in the open and light buildings but are unlikely to penetrate hardened structures.

"There is a high chance of these weapons missing their intended targets and causing civilian casualties because the missiles are not optimised for this role, and their crews will have little training for such missions", the statement says.

It is also stated that on 21 July 2022, Vitaliy Kim, governor of Ukraine’s Mykolaiv Oblast, said that Russian forces had used seven air defence missiles to strike infrastructure, energy facilities and storage areas.

Reminder: the head of intelligence of Great Britain said that the Russian military will probably take a certain operational pause in the next few weeks.

As reported, Western officials think that next year Russia will organise another full-scale attack on Ukraine, one of the aims of which may be to capture the strategic port city of Odesa and cut Kyiv off from the sea.
