Details: The Turkish Ministry of Defence has said that the first grain ship is set to depart from Odesa at 08:30 on Monday, 1 August, following meetings convened by Turkish Minister of Defence Hulusi Akar with all parties to the grain deal and the work undertaken by the Joint Coordination Centre.

Background: On 22 July, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, and the UN signed a so-called "grain deal" in Istanbul, an agreement to lift the blockade on Ukrainian food – and in particular grain – exports via the Black Sea.

On the following day, Russia broke the agreement by firing missiles on the sea port of Odesa. The UN, the EU, and the US have all condemned the Russian strike. The Turkish government has urged all parties to abide by the Istanbul agreement.

On 28 July, a Joint Coordination Centre was inaugurated in Istanbul in order to ensure the Istanbul agreements are followed. Turkey has claimed that the first ships carrying Ukrainian grain will arrive in Turkey on 3 August.
