Security Service of Ukraine puts ex-MP who shows up on Russian TV on wanted list

The Security Service of Ukraine put Ihor Markov, the ex-Member of Ukrainian Parliament from the currently banned Partiya Rehioniv political force, on the international wanted list. Earlier, Markov was accused of collaboration activity.

He, posing as an alleged expert, in the broadcast of the Russian Kremlin-aligned media publicly called for altering the borders of the Ukrainian territory, denied the Russian aggression and talked in support of Russians.

In connection with Markov being put on the international search, from now on he cannot enter civilised countries".

Details: Law enforcement servicemen don’t give the last name but according to the data gathered by Ukrainska Pravda, Ihor Markov, the ex-Member of Ukrainian Parliament of the 7th convocation and the ex-Member of the Odesa City Council, is the person of interest. In 2014, he moved to the territory of Russia.

The Security Service of Ukraine added that at the moment Markov is suspected of violating the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Article 110, Part 1 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
  • Article 161, Part 1 (violating equality of the citizens because of their racial, national, regional background, religion, disabilities or other features);
  • Article 6, part 111-1 (collaboration activity);
  • Article 436 (war propaganda);
  • Article 436-2, Part 1 (justification, consideration as legal act, denial of the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

Background:

  • On 23 June, it was revealed that law enforcement accused Ihor Markov, the ex-Member of Ukrainian Parliament, of collaboration activity.
  • Earlier, servicemen of the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered the facts of Markov financing illegal armed formations of the so-called "Donetsk People’s Republic" and "Luhansk People’s Republic".
