Russian media report appointment of new Russian Black Sea Fleet commander

Members of the Military Council of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in occupied Sevastopol have been introduced to a new commander - Vice Admiral Viktor Sokolov.

Details: It is reported that the members of the military council were introduced [to Sokolov], but there was no public presentation event and probably will not be one due to the "yellow terrorist threat level" that has been declared in Sevastopol.

Another source, who knows Sokolov personally, noted that there is no obligation to publicly announce such appointments when there is a war going on – this is normal.

Background:

  • On 31 July, the Russian occupiers declared that the drone used to attack the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet was launched from Sevastopol.
