"EUROPEAN PRAVDA" — FRIDAY, 19 AUGUST 2022, 12:41

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the calls of German politicians to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline bring him an image of drug addiction.

European Pravda reports that this is how Dmytro Kuleba reacted to the recent statement of Wolfgang Kubicki, Vice President of the Bundestag.

"Calls by some German politicians to launch NS2 for a little while and close it later are totally irrational. This resembles drug addiction, when a person says "Just one last time!" without realising the devastating consequences of each "last time". Addiction to Russian gas kills!" - the minister wrote on Twitter.

Wolfgang Kubicki, Vice President of the Bundestag from the Free Democratic Party, that is part of Germany's ruling coalition, spoke in favour of opening the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to fill gas storage facilities for the winter, despite Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He added that once the gas storage tanks were full, the pipeline could be closed again.

Germany will find it difficult to have enough natural gas to survive the coming winter in the event of a complete stop of supplies from the Russian Federation. Even if the reserves are replenished in accordance with the government's goals. Gas in Germany's warehouses will last for less than three months.

Meanwhile, Olaf Scholz's government has so far ruled out the launch of Nord Stream 2, even in the event of a gas shortage.
