Donetsk militants plan to involve children in sham referendum

Russian handlers ordered the militants of occupied parts of Donetsk Oblast to expand "the electoral base" and involve underage Ukrainians, including those from orphanages, in sham referendums that aim to legitimise the merging of occupied territories with Russia.

Details: According to the documents intercepted by the Security Service, the occupiers want to involve children from 13 to 17 years of age in "a vote". That is how militants attempt to artificially make up for a catastrophic lack of votes.

Quote: "In order to strengthen control over turnout, the minors must be accompanied to polling stations by their parents, guardians or representatives of the so-called orphanages of the temporarily occupied territories in the region."

More details: There are also plans to involve families who are registered as residents of Donetsk Oblast, but have temporarily fled to the Russian Federation, in a sham referendum in order to "score votes".

The Security Service of Ukraine states that this order was given to a so-called Central Election Commission of the Donetsk People’s Republic ("DPR") by supervisors from Russia. Ukrainian services have identified all the organisers, defined their locations, and documented the crimes.

Background: On 19 September, the so-called Public Chambers of the "LPR" and "DPR" (self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic respectively) demanded the immediate launch of referendums on its recognition as a federal subject of the Russian Federation.
