Quote by Lavrov when he was asked whether the Russian nuclear doctrine would apply to the "new regions", that is, the occupied territories of Ukraine, in the event that they vote to join Russia in the sham referendums: "The entire territory of the Russian Federation, which is enshrined and can be additionally enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, is, of course, under the full protection of the state; this is absolutely natural. All laws, doctrines, concepts and strategies of the Russian Federation apply to its entire territory."

Details: Commenting on statements regarding the inevitable response of the USA in the event that the occupied territories "join" Russia, Lavrov said, "I would not make any gloomy predictions here."

Lavrov also pointed out that "by providing Kyiv with weapons, the USA, the European Union and NATO cannot claim to have a neutral status, that is, they cannot claim that they are not taking part in the conflict."

Lavrov said the United States is sending weapons to Ukraine and providing it with intelligence and satellite data, which means that they "are not neutral in this situation at all; they are a party to the conflict".

Previously: Following the announcement of partial mobilisation in Russia on 21 September, Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again threatened Western countries with nuclear weapons. "If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will certainly use all means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people. This is not a bluff," he said.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s press secretary, has said that in the event that Ukraine attacks the occupied Ukrainian territories where the so-called "referendums" are taking place, "the constitution of Russia will come into force."
