Quote: "Ukraine continues to defend democratic values. During a meeting in Berlin with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, we discussed the military situation, tougher sanctions and the need to provide weapons to Ukraine. I am grateful for your solidarity with the Ukrainians and [for the] support," Shmyhal wrote.

Shmyhal also stressed the need to increase the allies’ supply of heavy military equipment, the government's press service added.

"The MARS II multiple launch rocket systems and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery systems that Germany had handed over to us performed well on the battlefield, and we hope to increase the supply of heavy weapons. In addition, the transfer of the state-of-the-art German-made IRIS-T air defence system is expected in the fall. At the same time, we expect that Germany will become one of the leaders in the development of air defence," the government portal quotes Shmyhal.

The meeting members also discussed the plan for the restoration of Ukraine.

Before his visit to Germany, Shmyhal called on the federal government to supply the Ukrainian military with battle tanks so as to help the army repel Russian attackers.
