Quote from Zelenskyy: "It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

On behalf of the Ukrainian people, we extend sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the entire United Kingdom and the Commonwealth over this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you."

More details: The president’s wife, Olena Zelenska, also extended her condolences.

Background: Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain, passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on 8 September. She was 96. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch in history, and the second longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country in history.

The next monarch of Great Britain will be her eldest son, 73-year-old Prince Charles. His wife, 75-year-old Camilla, will become the Queen Consort [this means that the King's wife is equal to him in terms of social status and holds the female equivalent of his title].
