General Staff report: Collaborators and their families evacuate from Kherson

The Russian occupiers are taking collaborators and their families from Kherson to Russian-occupied Crimea.

Details: At the same time, the Russian forces are trying to hold the temporarily occupied territories, concentrating their efforts on deterring the actions of Ukraine’s defence forces on certain fronts, while continuing to attempt to carry out offensive actions on the Bakhmut and the Avdiivka fronts.

Over the past day, units of the Ukraine’s defence forces repelled the attacks of the Russian occupiers in and around the settlements of Spirne, Bakhmutske, Maiorsk, Marinka, Krasnohorivka, Pobieda and Nevelske in Donetsk Oblast.

The Russian forces are attacking the positions of Ukrainian troops along the entire line of contact, carrying out engineering works on defensive positions and lines in several different areas and conducting aerial reconnaissance. The Russian troops are striking critical infrastructure and civilian residential buildings, violating international humanitarian law and the laws and customs of war.

During the day of 17 October, the Russian forces conducted 9 missile and 39 airstrikes; [the occupier - ed.] launched around 30 attacks using MLRS.

Areas in and around more than 25 settlements were affected by Russian strikes. Among them are Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia; Kozacha Lopan and Strilecha in Kharkiv Oblast; Krasnohorivka, Ternyi, Soledar and Marinka in Donetsk Oblast; Bilohirka in Kherson Oblast; as well as settlements in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Sumy oblasts.

The Russians used cruise, air-launched and anti-aircraft guided missiles for strikes. The Russian forces continue to use Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones.

There are no significant changes on the Polissia and Volyn fronts. A planned rotation of units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus deployed to protect of its border is being carried out. The threat of missile and airstrikes, as well as the use of Shahed-136 attack UAVs from the territory of Belarus remains.

The Russian forces conducted attacks on other fronts as well:

  • on the Sivershchyna front: the villages of Popivka and Khodyn in Sumy Oblast, using various artillery;
  • on the Slobozhanshchyna front: the areas in an daround Vysoka Yarukha, Vovchansk, Vovchanskyi Khutor, Kozacha Lopan, Okhirtseve and Khatyshche, using tanks, mortars, tubed and rocket artillery;
  • on the Kramatorsk front: using tanks and artillery along the line of contact. The Russians attacked the populated areas of Hrekivka, Stelmakhivka, Zarichne, Kyselivka, Terny and Yampolivka;
  • on the Bakhmut and Avdiivka fronts: the Russians attacked using tanks, mortars, tubed and rocket artillery along the entire line of contact.
  • on Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts: the Russian forces attacked over 25 settlements. Among them are Velyka Novosilka, Pavlivka, Olkhivske and Mali Shcherbaky.
  • on the Pivdennyi Buh front: the Russian army is defending previously occupied lines and positions. It is striking military and civilian infrastructure facilities. The territories of more than 35 settlements along the line of contact were damaged by Russian fire.

In Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, over 40 occupiers were wounded as a result of the precision strikes by the Ukrainian forces’ artillery. An ammunition depot was destroyed in Berdiansk. Up to 30 occupiers were wounded in the village of Voskresenka, and up to 25 in Vasylivka. The number of those killed, which the Russian occupiers are trying to conceal, is being verified.

Within 17 October, aircraft of the defence forces conducted over 11 airstrikes. It was confirmed that 10 areas of concentration of Russian weapons and military equipment were struck, as well as a Russian anti-aircraft missile system. In addition, Ukrainian air defence units shot down 25 Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones.

Units of the Ukrainian Rocket Forces and Artillery struck two control points, one area of ​​concentration of Russian military personnel, weapons and equipment, two air defence systems, two ammunition storage sites and other military targets of the Russian forces.
