Quote: "The enemy is trying to hold the temporarily captured territories and concentrating its efforts on restraining the Ukrainian defence forces on certain axes. Simultaneously, the enemy is not abandoning its attempts to conduct offensives on the Bakhmut and Avdiivka fronts.

During the past day [18 October – ed.], units of the Ukrainian defence forces repelled attacks by the occupiers in the settlements of Ohirtseve and Dvorichna (Kharkiv Oblast), Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast), Novokalynove, Maiorsk, Odradivka, Niu-York, Novomykhailivka, Nevelske, Opytne and Mariinka (Donetsk Oblast).

Details: The Russians are firing at the positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces along the line of contact, fitting out their defensive positions on some fronts and conducting aerial reconnaissance.

The Russians continue to strike critical infrastructure targets and civilian houses, violating the norms of international humanitarian law and the laws and customs of war.

Russian forces launched 10 missile attacks and 18 air strikes and carried out more than 76 multiple launch rocket system attacks during 18 October.

The Russians attacked the vicinities of more than 10 Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, Kurakhove (Donetsk Oblast), Trykhaty (Mykolaiv Oblast) and Mykolaiv.

Russian forces used cruise missiles, air-based and surface-to-air missiles to carry out these attacks. Also, the invaders used 14 Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones; Ukrainian defence forces shot down 10 of those.

There were no significant changes on the Volyn and Polissia fronts. The Republic of Belarus continues to support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. There is a continuing threat of rocket and air strikes, as well as Shahed-136 drone attacks launched from Belarus.

On the other fronts, the Russians continued to fire on military and civilian targets:

  • on the Sivernshchyna front: the Russians used mortars and tubed artillery to fire on the settlements of Hai (Chernihiv Oblast) and Yunakivka, Khotyn, Tovstodubove and Demchenkove (Sumy Oblast);
  • on the Slobozhanshchyna front: the Russians used mortars, tubed artillery and multiple rocket launch systems to fire on areas in and around the settlements of Vovchanski Khutory, Volokhivka, Hatyshche, Krasne, Ohirtseve, Starytsia, Strilecha and Khatnie;
  • on the Krupiansk front: the Russians attacked the areas in and around Berestove, Dvorichna, Hrianykivka, Kamianka, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka and Stelmakhivka using tanks, tubed artillery and rockets;
  • on the Lyman front: The Russians shelled the areas in and around Hrekivka, Zarichne, Novoiehorivka, Serebrianka, Terny, Torske and Yampolivka;
  • on the Bakhmut front: The Russians attacked the areas in and around Andriivka, Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Bilohorivka, Zvanivka, Kurdiumivka, Maiorsk, Opytne, Rozdolivka, Soledar, Spirne and Yakovlivka using tanks, mortars, tubed artillery and rockets;
  • on the Avdiivka front: The Russians used tanks and artillery to fire on the areas in and around Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Karlivka, Krasnohorivka, Mariinka and Novomykhailivka;
  • on the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts: The Russians fired at the areas in and around Velyka Novosilka, Vuhledar, Vremivka, Mykilske, Neskuchne, Pavlivka, Olhivske, Stepove and Prechystivka;
  • on the Pivdennyi Buh front, Russian forces are trying to improve their logistics. They are shelling more than 20 settlements along the line of contact. The infrastructure targets of Vyshchetarasivka (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast) took the most damage from the Russian fire.

The invaders are taking steps to covertly move military equipment and personnel. For this purpose, they are blocking the mobile phone and Internet operators in the settlements of Tavriisk and Nova Kakhovka in Kherson Oblast.

Russian forces continue to destroy Ukrainian cultural heritage in the temporarily occupied territories, looting museums and burning books and textbooks printed in Ukrainian.

Intelligence data suggests that the Russian Federation is having significant issues with compensation to military personnel participating in hostilities in Ukraine. Disbursements of cash allowances for participation in the hostilities are being delayed. Relatives of the dead soldiers are unable to receive the promised compensation.

The Ukrainian Air Force carried out 24 strikes during 18 October. Sixteen areas of concentration of Russian military personnel and equipment, a strong point and eight positions of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems are confirmed to have been hit. In addition, air defence units shot down five cruise missiles and a Su-25 aircraft.

Ukraine's Rocket Forces and Artillery hit four Russian command posts, five areas of concentration of military personnel, weapons and equipment, two air defence targets and an artillery target, two ammunition dumps, an electronic warfare station and other military targets.
