Ukraine plans to ask G20 to exclude Russia

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine [the Ukrainian Parliament – ed.] may address the G20 countries with a call to exclude the Russian Federation from this influential group.

Details: A draft resolution by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to G20 countries regarding the exclusion of the Russian Federation from this group was registered on 14 November. The document was submitted by Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as MPs Oleksandr Korniienko, Olena Kondratiuk, and other members of parliament.

The draft resolution proposes to approve the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to G20 member countries to exclude the Russian Federation. If it is approved, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada will send it to the G20 countries. 

At the moment, the draft resolution has been passed on to the Rada’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Interparliamentary Cooperation for further consideration. 

Background: A G20 summit is going to be held later this week in Indonesia. An address by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the leaders of the 20 most influential states is planned for Tuesday, 15 November. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not make a speech at the G20 – not even online.
