Ukraine is not being pushed to negotiate with Russia

Foreign partners are not trying to persuade the Ukrainian authorities to negotiate with Russia.

Source: highly placed sources of Ukrainska Pravda who are close to Bankova Street [the street in Kyiv where many of the government buildings are located - ed.], and in diplomatic circles.

Quote from a government source: "They are not pushing us to enter into negotiations, but are simply saying that ‘it is desirable not to refuse the Russians so categorically’, so that Europeans can live more calmly."

Details: In addition, Ukrainska Pravda’s contacts in diplomatic circles deny that Western partners are putting pressure on Ukraine and calling for negotiations with Russia.

"Actually, nothing serious is happening. There are very vague conversations about how to move forward," said one of Ukrainska Pravda’s sources who is involved in international negotiations.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, as of now, there is no preparatory work underway regarding possible negotiations with the Russian Federation.

  • U.S. media wrote that the pressure applied by the administration of US President Joe Biden has led to the softening of the position of his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who previously stated that peace negotiations with Russia could not begin during the presidency of Vladimir Putin.
  • On 8 November, Andrey Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said that Russia had no preconditions for starting negotiations with Ukraine.
  • The Ukrainian side believes that Russia is manipulating its statements about negotiations with Ukraine.
  • On 31 October, Russian President Vladimir Putin complained that Ukraine did not want to hold "peace talks" with the Russian Federation and said that he would wait for Ukraine to agree to such talks.
