Air Force explains whether Syria-like carpet bombing of Ukraine is possible

In order to carry out carpet bombing, Russian aircraft must fly deep into Ukraine’s airspace; however, the country’s air defence makes it possible to prevent Russian planes from attacking with free-falling bombs.

Now the Air Force is on a slightly different level [than before -ed.]. We are getting Western weapons, and little by little we are reinforcing the Soviet-era air defence system with modern systems. Therefore, they [Russian planes - ed.] will have no peace in the Ukrainian skies".

Details: Ihnat noted that Syria had been bombarded with 200-500 kg projectiles that were dropped from aircraft. The occupiers of Ukraine also used such bombs to attack Mariupol and Izyum, where there was no air defence.

"And they [planes - ed.] climbed high enough so that portable anti-aircraft missile systems could not reach them," Ihnat added.

Details: On 8 November, the BBC, citing military experts, argued that Western partners should increase and accelerate the supply of weapons and air defence to Ukraine, because Russia might resort to the same kind of bombing as it carried out in Syria.
