Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the European Union to accelerate the assessment of Ukraine’s implementation of recommendations received in the process of obtaining candidate status for EU membership.

"Now is the time to take another step. Despite the war, we do not stop the institutional transformation of our state. This week alone, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved three European integration laws: the law on national communities, the law on modernising principles of work of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, and the law on media," Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that Ukraine calls for acceleration [of the assessment - ed.] in order to start negotiating about its accession.

"This is just one example of many things that we have done in order to prepare for the next stage of rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU, namely, the assessment of the implementation of recommendations of the European Commission that we expect from you in the near future. We are strongly asking you to do this and accelerate this process so that we can proceed to the start of negotiations regarding Ukraine's membership in the EU," he added.

The European Commission will make a report on Ukraine’s fulfilment of all criteria for accession to the EU only in autumn 2023

Meanwhile, the Reanimation Package of Reforms coalition has prepared an analysis of where Ukraine stands in implementing each of the European Commission's recommendations.
