Kyiv and Prague reach agreement to involve Czech businesses in rebuilding Ukraine
On Tuesday, 17 January, Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, and Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, reached an agreement on setting up a working group for involving Czech enterprises in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

"We are grateful to Czechia for its military, financial and humanitarian aid in these dramatic times. Czechia is one of Ukraine’s key European partners, providing Ukraine with significant political and practical help, and one of our country’s five key weapons suppliers," Svyrydenko said.
Svyrydenko and Síkela discussed the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental Ukrainian-Czech commission to be held in March 2023, and also reached an agreement on further cooperation in the energy sector and the integration of electricity markets.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy reports that the Czech government has been providing Ukraine with weapons and ammunition since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, specifically the ground combat systems and anti-tank and anti-aircraft equipment that the Ukrainian army needs.
The Czech Republic has provided Ukraine with 3 billion Czech crowns (about US$130 million) worth of military aid.
Background:
- In October 2022, the Czech government approved a programme of humanitarian, stabilisation, reconstruction and economic aid to Ukraine. It is expected that 500 million crowns will be allocated for this purpose annually over the period from 2023 to 2025.
- In January 2023, the Czech Cabinet of Ministers appointed former deputy Defence Minister Tomáš Kopechny as governmental ombudsman for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
