Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has responded to the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s claim that negotiations on the terms of the "Peace Formula" proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are impossible. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry believes that Lavrov’s statement bears out Russia’s unwillingness to engage in the peace process.

Source: Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, on Facebook

Quote from Nikolenko: "Lavrov has once again articulated Russia’s real intentions. Moscow has no interest in peace at all.

Public manoeuvres by the representatives of the Russian regime, the ‘Christmas cease fire’, expectations of ‘real’ propositions from the West – all of this is just smoke and mirrors as Russia prepares for a new terrorist attack on Ukraine."

Details: Nikolenko underscored that Ukraine’s partners have long ignored the statements made by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The spokesman for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry added that Ukraine has received widespread international support for Zelenskyy’s "Peace Formula".

Quote from Nikolenko: "It’s a complex document comprising 10 points. Implementing them will help restore peace in Ukraine and create mechanisms to prevent Russian aggression in the future.

Whether the Kremlin likes it or not, Russia will have to comply with the peace formula."

Details: Nikolenko said that the Foreign Ministry will continue to work to secure the supply of tanks, anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems, long-range missiles, ammunition, finance, and training opportunities for Ukrainian soldiers.

Background:

  • On 18 January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the plan for a peaceful settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which was proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is "out of the question".
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined 10 proposals that comprise Ukraine’s "formula for peace" in his video address to the G20 summit in Bali.
  • Zelenskyy discussed the Ukrainian peace formula with US President Joe Biden. The American leader supported the idea of holding a peace summit.
  • Zelenskyy’s team plans to present the peace formula officially on or around 24 February 2023.
  • Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, is convinced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace plan will be implemented in full and on schedule. According to him, the longer the Kremlin sabotages President Zelenskyy’s 10 conditions for peace, the more catastrophic the situation for the Kremlin and the tougher Ukraine’s position will be.
