Britain offers to build arms factory for Ukraine in Poland

A "massive arms factory" is to be built in Poland in order to help Ukraine win the war.

Details: Ellwood has stated that the Western governments have shown the lack of strategic foresight in their plans to help Ukraine "survive and thrive".

The conservative member of the parliament has supported the decision on sending main battle tanks of a Western type; however, he has also said that supplying Kyiv with various supply chains and weaponry types is "unsustainable".

Quote: "It’s just not feasible in the long term. Tanks today, yes. But we need a strategy to make sure Ukraine can defend itself."

More details: Given that the Western military resources are reducing, Ellwood believes that building an arms factory in Poland will help make the Armed Forces of Ukraine a more independent army.

The concept can be developed based on a microchip production factory, opened by Taiwan in the USA out of fear that the Chinese invasion will cut it off from the West.

Quote: "Let’s do the same with Ukraine, so that they could purchase their own equipment with their specification, maybe with NATO standards, and have a constantly secured supply chain."

Background: Earlier, media outlets reported that the Pentagon is going to increase the production of artillery shells in the next two years to the level unseen since the Korean war. Before the war, the US army produced 14,400 unguided shells per month. According to new US plans, this number will increase to 90,000 per month.

On 25 January, US President Joe Biden confirmed the intention of sending 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, equalling to one Ukrainian battalion, in order to enhance its defence capability against Russia.

Along with sending tanks, the USA will start training Ukrainian soldiers and provide components as soon as possible.
