Pentagon announces details of new military aid package for Ukraine

The Ministry of Defence of the US has announced the allocation of a US$460 million military aid package for Ukraine.

The package will include additional shells for HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system, 155 mm artillery shells and 120 mm mortar shells.

Also in the package will be included: four electronic warfare systems, man-portable Javelin air defence systems and explosive shells (quantity is not specified), nearly 2,000 anti-tank missiles, four Bradley infantry combat vehicles, two tactical vehicles, Claymore anti-personnel mines, night vision devices, communication devices, medical devices and spare parts for military equipment.

Background: The latest US$400 million military aid package from the US was announced at the end of January, it included among other things the M1 Abrams tanks. The total cost of the American military aid for Ukraine since February 2022 has surpassed US$28 billion.

The next package was announced during the visit of Joe Biden, US President, to the city of Kyiv on 20 February, a few days before the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Biden met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, and announced a new military aid package from the US and additional sanctions against Russia.

From Kyiv, Biden will go to Poland, where he will meet with Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, and the leaders of other countries of the east flank of NATO, just like it was previously announced.
