Committee of Italian Parliament recognises Holodomor as genocide

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament recognised the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people [Holodomor was a man-made famine in the Soviet Union, which lasted from 1932 to 1933 and claimed lives of millions of Ukrainians – ed.]

Quote: "It is also important for us to recognise the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian nation, as this year marks the 90th anniversary of this tragedy. Madam Prime Minister informed me that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament had voted for this important decision yesterday," Zelenskyy said.

"We expect the resolution to be supported by the Italian parliament in the near future," he added.

Background: On 1 February, the Bulgarian parliament adopted a draft decision to recognise the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 as genocide and categorically blamed its perpetrators.

On 15 December, the European Parliament recognised the Holodomor as genocide.
