Details: He confirmed that the first meeting of the Council will take place in Vilnius on Wednesday (12 July) and will be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The NATO-Ukraine Council will replace the previous format of cooperation between Kyiv and the Alliance – the NATO-Ukraine Commission, which has existed since 1997 and worked based on the NATO members +1 format.

Background: As Stoltenberg explained earlier, the new format opens up more opportunities for practical cooperation. It is possible that subcommittees will be set up to deal with specific issues, such as cyber security or interoperability.
