The commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, has said that it is "practically impossible" to get quick results in the offensive due to the amount of mines and defensive barriers.

Quote: "We'd like to get very fast results, but in reality it's practically impossible."

Details: Syrskyi also added that in the east, as well as in the south of Ukraine, the territory is full of mines and defensive barriers. The Russians have many strongholds, he says: "Therefore, our advances are really not going as fast as we would like."

However, Syrskyi states, the Ukrainian army has an advantage in the unity of the military leadership and the trust of the soldiers.

Background:

  • In the same interview, Syrskyi stated that US-supplied cluster munitions have arrived in Ukraine and will soon be ready for use.
  • At the end of June, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has said that soldiers pay in blood for liberation of every metre of Ukrainian land, so he is annoyed by other people's comments that the counteroffensive is slower than expected.
