Half of Ukrainians believe that allies should support Ukraine only if it fights corruption

Fifty-five per cent of Ukrainians believe that partner-countries should provide military assistance to Ukraine if an effective fight against corruption is underway.

Details: According to sociologists, in August 2023, more than half of the respondents (55%) agreed with the thesis that military assistance to Ukraine should be provided by foreign partners on a condition that the fight against corruption in the country is effective.

Quote: "Most of all, this vision of Ukraine's interaction with foreign partners is shared by residents of western and central regions, 60.6% and 61.1%, respectively. In the south, only 47% of respondents support the thesis that the fight against corruption is a prerequisite for military assistance. Most opponents of this thesis live in eastern regions – 40%."

Details: Well-off citizens tend to agree the least with this statement, while the most critical attitude is common among low-income citizens.

Reference: The survey conducted by Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with Kyiv International Institute of Sociology was carried out face-to-face from 3-17 July to 2023 in all oblasts of Ukraine except for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson oblasts.

In Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv oblasts, the survey was conducted in those territories controlled by the government of Ukraine in which there are no hostilities. The survey includes responses of 2,011 Ukrainians aged 18 years and older.
