Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree ordering a review of all decisions made by military medical boards since 24 February 2022.

Quote: "The decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine dated 30 August 2023 ‘On military medical examination in the Armed Forces of Ukraine’ shall be implemented."

Details: The decree says that the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council is to make sure the decision is duly implemented.

Background:

  • On 30 August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, at which it was decided to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the validity of decisions made by military medical boards since 24 February 2022. These are decisions on disability and unfitness for service that were or may be related to corruption violations.
  • The Ministry of Health and law enforcement agencies announced on 7 September that they would review decisions of the military medical boards on limited fitness for military service issued after the start of the full-scale invasion.
  • On 1 September, Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, stated that the names of medics who falsified documents confirming unfitness for military service, and those of the draft dodgers who obtained such documents, are to be made public.
