A total of 11 people, including five children, were killed and eight others were injured as a result of Russian strikes in the Pokrovsk district, Donetsk Oblast, on 6 January.

The Russians hit the district with S-300 missiles, killing 11 people and wounding another 8. [Cities of] Pokrovsk and Rivne in Myrnohrad hromada [an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories] were in the epicentre."

 
 

Updated: Later, Filashkin reported that the total number of casualties from the Russian missile strike on Pokrovsk district on Saturday (6 January) reached 11 dead and 10 injured as of 21:00.

Six people were reported dead in the village of Rivne of Myrnohrad hromada in the Pokrovsk district. There are 3 children among the casualties. The village came under heavy fire around 15:00. One projectile hit a house where a family was staying. The Russians killed 5 more people in Pokrovsk.

There are 5 children aged 3 to 17 among the dead.

At the same time, the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office reported at 21:46 that one person had been killed and 9 injured in the Pokrovsk district. The prosecutor's office said 10 more people, including 5 children, were being searched for under the rubble.

Quote from the prosecutor’s office: "Russian troops fired 8 missiles on Pokrovsk district at around 15:00 on 6 January 2024. A woman was killed in Pokrovsk during the attack, and 7 more people were injured. Furthermore, a man and a woman were injured in the village of Rivne. They were diagnosed with mine-blast traumas and shrapnel injuries.

It has also been established that 10 people, including 5 children aged 5 to 16, were likely staying in the houses destroyed by the invaders. Search and rescue operations are currently underway to find them.

The final number of injured and dead is being determined."

More details: Ukraine's National Police in Donetsk Oblast reported that 11 people, including five children, are trapped under the rubble in Pokrovsk district.

Background: Earlier, Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, reported that a Russian attack on Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, left at least six people injured, and three people may be trapped under rubble.

Later, he wrote that the Pokrovsk district was subjected to numerous attacks on Saturday evening. A search operation is ongoing in the city of Pokrovsk as one person was recovered from the rubble of the building. Two more people are likely to be staying under the ruins.
