Israel hits site where Iranian officials were due to meet to elect new supreme leader, local reports say

Israeli forces have hit a building used by the Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for electing Iran's new supreme leader.

Details: A source in Israel's defence establishment told The Times of Israel that the Israeli Air Force hit a building in the Iranian city of Qom where Iranian religious officials meet to select a new supreme leader.

An official said the Assembly of Experts has 88 members, although it is unclear how many were in the building at the time of the strike.

Local media outlets have released footage of the building, which has been badly damaged as a result of the strikes.

• Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Mohammad Pakpour, Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), were killed in morning strikes on Iran on 28 February.
• US President Donald Trump confirmed that Khamenei had been killed during a joint operation by US and Israeli forces.
• The CIA determined Khamenei's location shortly before the United States and Israel were ready to launch their attack on Iran.
• Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a statement following the killing of Khamenei that revenge is a "legitimate right and duty".
