Quote: "We proposed a ceasefire during the Easter holidays this year and will act accordingly.
People need an Easter free from threats and real movement toward peace, and Russia has a chance not to return to strikes after Easter as well."
Previously: The Kremlin announced that Putin had declared an "Easter truce" lasting one and a half days.
Background:
- On 30 March, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was willing to agree to a ceasefire during the Easter holidays and to an energy ceasefire.
- However, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that the Kremlin would not support Zelenskyy's proposal for an Easter ceasefire, citing its lack of "clear formulation".
- In 2025, Putin declared a three-day Easter truce, purportedly halting all hostilities in Ukraine from the evening of 19 April until midnight on 21 April.
- On 19 April, however, Russia carried out a drone attack on Ukraine.
